Audience with The Provincial Government of North Sulawesi
KPPU as a institution bearers mandate for supervise the implementation of Law number 5 Year 1999, required to always make the best effort in carrying out their duties and authority, one of which is to establish the KPPU Representative Office in some areas in Indonesia. The establishment of KPPU Representative Office in local area is expected not only for accessibility for public to report alleged violations of Law Number 5 Year 1999, but also to facilitate KPPU in monitoring monopolistic practices and unfair business competition that occurred in local area its self.
Although currently KPPU has 5 (five) Representative Office in Medan, Surabaya, Makassar, Balikpapan and Batam, but the Public or DPR-RI (The House of Representatives RI) assess that KPPU is still need to establish KPPU Representative Office in other area. Responding to that matter, in this year 2010 KPPU planning to open 5 (five) new representative office in some of local area in Indonesia, one is in city of Manado which is feeder city for North-East Indonesia. According to that, on February 22, 2010 KPPU has had audience with The Provincial Government of North Sulawesi to discuss the plan.
The Audience was attended by Mr. Ahmad Ramadhan Siregar (Commisioner of KPPU), accompanied with Mr. Mokhamad Syuhadhak (Acting General Secretary), Mr. Dendy R. Sutrisno (Head of KPD Local Office of Makassar) and Ms. Astri (Commission Administrative of KPPU), while from The Provincial Government of North Sulawesi represented by Mr. Gemmy A. Kawatu (Assistant II for Economic and Development), Mr. Andry Manengkeng (Head of Economic Bureau) and Mr. Darwin Muksin (Head of Facilities Bureau).In the meeting KPPU permit the plan to establish KPPU Representative Office in Manado including its general picture some of technical cooperation may be established by the Government of North Sulawesi in order to accelerate the realization of the plan. Responding to the plan, The Provincial Government of North Sulawesi gave positive response and clearly states ready to help realize the establishment of KPPU Representative Office in Manado.
Manado was selected as one of the locations KPPU Representative Office formation, was also assessed by the Provincial Government of North Sulawesi as an appropriate step considering to the business dynamics in this region increased time after time, especially The Special Economic Zone will be open soon, and its require intense monitoring by a credible institution such as KPPU.
