M. Afif Hasbullah Has Been Appointed As The New Chairperson of Indonesia Competition Commission.

Jakarta (15/9) – ICC Commissioner M. Afif Hasbullah has been appointed as the Chairpeson of the Indonesia Competition Commission (ICC/KPPU) for the period of 16 September 2022 until 27 April 2023 to succeed the previour the Chairperson, Ukay Karyadi. The change in leadership was stipulated in the Board of Commissioner Meeting held on 14 September 2022 in Jakarta. This appointment was inline with the Presidential Decree No. 75/1999 on KPPU, which stipulated that Chairperson and Vice Chairperson of the Commission was selected from and by the Commissioners. In performing his new mandate, Afif will be accompanied by Guntur Syahputra Saragih, who has been the Vice Chairman of the Commission since 16 December 2020.

Afif Hasbullah, who is also known as Gus Afif, is a doctor in law from the University of August 17th, 1945, Surabaya. He completed his bachelor’s degree at the Faculty of Law, Islamic University of Indonesia, under the guidance of Prof. Djawahir Thontowi, Ph.D., and his master’s degree at the Master of Business and State Law Study Program, University of Gadjah Mada, under the guidance of Prof. Moh. Mahfud, MD. In the early period of his career, Gus Afif actively contributed to the educational system as an academic at the University of Islam Darul Ulum (UNISDA) Lamongan, which successfully paved his way to being the Rector of the University from 2014 until 2017. After he concluded his mandate as Rector, Gus Afif actively engaged as the Head of the Academic Senate, a non-structural position at the University.

Gus Afif, born in Lamongan in 1976, had received the IHRDP Silver Award from the International Human Resources Development Program and the Researchers & Educators Award from the Academic International Consortium of Indonesia (AIC Indonesia). He was active as an Intellectual Property Rights Consultant and as a Reviewer for scholarship recipients at the Education Fund Management Institution (LPDP), Ministry of Finance, Republic of Indonesia. He actively contributes his writings on competition, law, economics, and socio-religion, which have been published in national and international journals.
