Myanmar Delegations visit KPPU.
On Wednesday, 22nd February 2017, KPPU was welcoming 5 (five) Delegations from Ministry of Commerce Myanmar, to its head office in Jakarta, including Mr. Aung Min Thyke, the upcoming Chair of ASEAN Expert Group on Competition (AEGC) for the period of 2017. The Delegations visited KPPU to get an overview of competition law enforcement in Indonesia, which expected to complement the discussion on regional initiatives that could enhance the implementation of competition policy and law in all ASEAN member countries. This visit was also conducted to help Myanmar in getting a better insight into national-level developments.
The topics that has been discussed on the half-day session in KPPU were; overview of the legal and institutional framework for competition law enforcement in Indonesia, challenges for young agencies on strategic planning and priority setting for enforcement and advocacy (including development of implementing regulations, internal guidelines and capacity building), and KPPU’s engagement on promoting regional cooperation on competition policy in ASEAN.
On the discussion session, most of the questions raised by the delegates are on the institutional settings and early implementation of competition policy and law, including how to manage the election of Commissioners, Chairman, and Vice Chairman for the competition authority, how to set up our priorities in the early establishment of competition authorities, and how to create an effective strategic plan.
The delegates also visited Indonesian Ministry of Trade, ASEAN Secretariat and GIZ on the next day to understand the role of the Ministry of Trade in the implementation of competition policy and law and to discuss about regional development of competition issues. (EWN)
