President Inaugurates KPPU Commisioners for 2024-2029 Period.

Jakarta (18/01) – Indonesian President Joko Widodo today at the State Palace inaugurated 9 (nine) Commissioners of the Indonesia Competition Commission (KPPU) for the 2024-2029 Period as stipulated by Presidential Decree Number 8/P of 2024 on the Dismissal and Appointment of Members of the Indonesia Competition Commission and takes effect on 8 January 2024.

The nine KPPU Commissioners who were inaugurated are:

1. Dr M. Fanshurullah Asa, S.T., M.T.
2. Aru Armando, S.H., M.H.
3. Rhido Jusmadi, S.H., M.H.
4. Gopprera Panggabean, S.E., Ak.
5. Hilman Pujana, S.E., M.H.
6. Noor Rofieq, S.T.
7. Mohammad Reza, S.H., M.H.
8. Dr Eugenia Mardanugraha, S.Si., M.E.
9. Budi Joyo Santoso, S.E., M.M.

All KPPU Members have been actively working since the beginning of this week, and are preparing work plans and priorities for the next five years. They have also held a Commission Meeting and agreed to appoint Dr. M. Fanshurullah Asa, S.T., M.T. and Aru Armando, S.H., M.H. as Chairperson and Vice Chairperson at the beginning of the period.

KPPU Chairperson, who is also familiarly called Ifan, after the inauguration revealed that many big challenges await in his membership period.

“This fifth period is very challenging, because there are still many KPPU homeworks that have not been completed. Such as the transformation of KPPU institution and employees, a low budget amidst a broad scope of duties, the existence of KPPU that has not been widely recognised, the complexity of supervision in the digital market, and amendments to the competition law,” said Ifan.

Ifan further believes that the composition of current KPPU Commissioners, where five of the nine KPPU Commissioner come from internally, will ensure the sustainability of the programme and accelerate the work adaptation process so that new members can immediately carry out their duties and functions.

“With the current composition of KPPU Commissioners, I believe we can immediately accelerate to carry out the mandated tasks. For this reason, in 100 working days, we will focus on supervision in sectors with the lowest or below average of the National Competition Index over the past five years. Namely, the energy and mineral resources sector, such as gas, electricity, and mining; and the construction sector. Meanwhile, the digital market and food will remain the main focus in this period,” said Ifan.
